Glen
Moray Distillery Opens New Visitor Centre
Glen Moray Distillery has significantly boosted its facilities by launching an
exciting new visitor centre in Elgin. The distillery’s former cooperage building
has been transformed to include an expanded gift and coffee shop
The new Visitor Centre is dedicated to the distilling career of Ed Dodson, our
current Distillery manager. Ed started his distilling career in 1963 at
Convalmore and Parkmore Distilleries. He joined Glen Moray in 1974 as Brewer,
before becoming Assistant Manager in 1987. Ed has a real passion for Glen Moray
have spent over 30 years living and breathing this finest quality malt whisky.
The Visitor Centre is situated on the site of the old cooperage and the building
was completely restored by distillery employees and local tradesmen. The new
Visitor Centre is bigger with enhanced facilities including a café, a tasting
area and a bigger retail area. We have also taken the opportunity to display old
distillery equipment, the distillery history and old photographs.
The Visitor Centre was opened by our local MP Angus Robertson on 6th July at an
event attended by local politicians, distillery employees, local hotels and
tourism providers from Elgin and Morayshire.

Our location as we say is “In the
Middle of Nowhere yet in the Centre of Everything” It has made us
popular with guests worldwide as a base to explore the entire Highlands
and Islands of this beautiful yet unspoilt area. We are located on the
main Loch Side road (A82) from Inverness to Fort William and the
junction of the road to Kyle of Lochalsh and Skye (A887/87) the latter
of these roads being recently voted as the most beautiful road in the UK
(the worst not surprisingly being the M25), we are sure that you agree
that it really is worthy of that statement.
From the moment you walk
in to the Hotel our guests have remarked on the warm welcome they have
received with the bar area being a popular destination understandably
considering we have over 150 Single Malt whiskies on the gantry and real
ale in a wooden barrel on the bar from the Isle of Skye brewery, which
remarked a local member of CAMRA was the best pint of Black Cuillin he
had tasted.
With an open fire and
freshly cooked wholesome bar meals, an award winning restaurant where
you can enjoy candlelit romantic evenings eating with silver cutlery,
and bone china plus a wine menu to make even wine connoisseurs
jealous….. people here often comment that they do not want to leave.
The bar and restaurant
has a distinctly Scottish feel with Grant Tartan carpet adorning the
rooms, antique rifles on the walls and memorabilia from days gone by
there really is a cosy atmosphere.
